Astilbe glaberrima var. saxatilis

£7.50

Miniature form of astilbe, ideal for rock gardens, alpine troughs or the front of shady borders. It forms a low, spreading mat of finely divided, glossy green foliage, topped in early to midsummer with soft pink flower plumes that gently arch above the leaves.

Unlike taller astilbes, this variety is prized for its subtlety and scale, offering delicate texture and colour without overpowering neighbouring plants. It enjoys consistent moisture and partial shade, thriving in humus-rich, well-drained soil.

A refined and rarely offered species, perfect for small spaces or collectors of choice woodland and alpine plants.

Sold currently in 1 litre pots.

  • Height & Spread: 15–20cm x 30cm

  • Position: Partial shade

  • Soil: Moist, humus-rich, well-drained

  • Flowering Time: June to July

Gardens Illustrated 2019 Badge

One of Gardens Illustrated's 100 best plant nurseries in the UK: "Billy Carruthers is mad about peonies and has over 300 varieties on the nursery. In recent years he's exhibited them at the Chelsea Flower Show. However, they're just the tip of the iceberg for this nursery, midway between Glasgow and Edinburgh, Central Scotland"
