Dryas octopetala

£4.50

Eight petal mountain-avens. A tough, slow-spreading, mat-forming alpine shrub with leathery, dark green foliage and distinctive white, buttercup-like flowers in late spring to early summer. Native to upland and limestone habitats across Europe, it is well adapted to poor, dry soils and exposed conditions.

The flowers are followed by decorative, feathery seedheads, adding further interest into late summer. Hugging the ground and tolerating drought, it makes excellent groundcover in rockeries, troughs, gravel gardens or dry slopes, particularly where alkaline soil is present.

Hardy, long-lived and very low maintenance – a classic choice for high places and dry corners.

Sold currently in 9cm pots.

  • Height & Spread: 10–15cm x 40cm

  • Position: Full sun

  • Soil: Well-drained, alkaline or neutral soil

  • Flowering Time: May to July

Telegraph Top 20 Mail-Order Plant Nurseries

One of the Daily Telegraph’s Top 20 mail-order nurseries. The largest list of peonies in Scotland, ranging from herbaceous peonies, Itoh or intersectional peonies and tree peonies.

Gardens Illustrated 2019 Badge

One of Gardens Illustrated's 100 best plant nurseries in the UK: "Billy Carruthers is mad about peonies and has over 300 varieties on the nursery. In recent years he's exhibited them at the Chelsea Flower Show. However, they're just the tip of the iceberg for this nursery, midway between Glasgow and Edinburgh, Central Scotland"
