Saxifraga stolonifera 'Kinki Purple'
Striking and unusual saxifrage, grown as much for its bold foliage as for its delicate flowers. Rounded leaves with dark purple undersides and bold veining form neat rosettes that spread gently by runners, creating a dense and decorative groundcover.
Around mid-summer it produces wiry flower stems topped with sprays of small white blooms, each with two elongated lower petals that have a light, almost orchid-like look. Likes cool, shaded positions, humus-rich soil and brings fine texture to containers, shady borders or woodland edges.
We find it to be borderline hardy, surviving west Lothian winters if grown in sheltered, shady spots with protection from excessive moisture, especially if mulched or grown in a container that can be moved or sheltered.
Sold Currently in 1 litre pots.
Height & Spread: 15–20cm x 40cm
Position: Partial to full shade
Soil: Moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil
Flowering Time: Midsummer
