Ligularia 'Desdemona'

£11.50

a bold and dramatic perennial, perfect for bringing structure and contrast to damp, shaded borders. Its large, rounded, heart-shaped leaves emerge with a purplish underside and rich bronze-green upper surface, creating striking foliage interest throughout the growing season.

In mid to late summer, tall stems rise above the foliage carrying clusters of bright orange-yellow, daisy-like flowers that add a splash of vivid colour and attract bees and other pollinators. The warm flower tones stand out beautifully against the dark-toned leaves.

‘Desdemona’ thrives in moisture-retentive soil and prefers a sheltered spot in partial shade, where it won’t suffer from wilting in hot midday sun. Ideal for bog gardens, the edge of ponds, or shady mixed borders where it adds a lush, architectural presence.

Sold currently in 2-litre pots.

  • Height & Spread: 90–120cm x 60–90cm

  • Position: Partial shade (sheltered)

  • Soil: Moist, fertile, humus-rich soil

  • Flowering Time: July to September

Telegraph Top 20 Mail-Order Plant Nurseries

One of the Daily Telegraph’s Top 20 mail-order nurseries. The largest list of peonies in Scotland, ranging from herbaceous peonies, Itoh or intersectional peonies and tree peonies.

Gardens Illustrated 2019 Badge

One of Gardens Illustrated's 100 best plant nurseries in the UK: "Billy Carruthers is mad about peonies and has over 300 varieties on the nursery. In recent years he's exhibited them at the Chelsea Flower Show. However, they're just the tip of the iceberg for this nursery, midway between Glasgow and Edinburgh, Central Scotland"
