A very fluffy ‘lamb’s ear’, Stachys byzantina ‘Helen von Stein’ forms dense mats of soft, silvery foliage that stays neat and compact. Its velvety leaves catch the light beautifully, adding texture and contrast to borders, gravel gardens, and edges. In summer, short spikes of pale purple flowers rise above the leaves, drawing bees and other pollinators.
Drought tolerant and low maintenance, it’s ideal for hot, sunny spots and poor, well-drained soils. Trim after flowering to keep the clumps tidy and encourage fresh silvery growth.
