A characterful Scottish shrub rose named in honour of the national poet, Rosa ‘Robbie Burns’ is a hybrid between the old garden rose ‘Wife of Bath’ and Rosa spinosissima raised by David Austin. It combines the charm and flower quality of traditional cultivated roses with the exceptional toughness of the spinosissima group. Open, semi-double flowers in gentle pink are centred with a generous cluster of golden stamens and are lightly fragrant, appearing in early summer in a concentrated display.
Naturally forming a dense, thorny, and very hardy shrub, it is well suited to exposed sites, poorer soils, and coastal gardens. Its informal habit makes it an excellent choice for low-maintenance borders, wild planting schemes, or informal hedging, particularly in Scottish conditions where resilience is essential.
Height & Spread: 1–1.5 m x 1–1.5 m
Position: Full sun
Soil: Well-drained, tolerant of poor, sandy, or alkaline soils
Flowering Time: June
