A distinctive and rather handsome Scotch rose, Rosa spinosissima ‘William III’ forms a dense, naturally low shrub clothed in fine, ferny foliage. In early summer it produces a striking flush of simple, dark cerise to magenta flowers, each centred with prominent golden stamens and lightly scented. These are followed by rounded, near-black hips in autumn, extending its season of interest well beyond flowering. Exceptionally tough and long-lived, it is ideal for informal planting, wildlife gardens, or sunny banks where it can thrive with minimal intervention.
Sold currently as bare root.
Height: 90–120 cm
Position: Full sun
Soil: Well-drained, tolerant of poorer soils
Flowering Time: May–June
